First Do No Harm. Then Do Some Good!

This is a true story.

…And it's mighty strange

seated on their individual power trips, a debate that should indeed be over is being quibbled about. yes, that's right. we are now debating over whether we should debate whether global warming and its causes is debatable.

but let's not worry about the fat cats, huh?

TAKE A LOOK -Please click on the photos for explanations and evidence.

i don't want to go into more documentation than is listed here, because the point of this post is ACTION, not debate. There are many websites out there for anybody who wants some more proof.

so, just how much power do you and I have over the future of the planet? just you and i, doing our individual planet-changing thing?

shall we find out?

Since I know that Opera people care about the environment I have created the first ever:

DOING TAG.

you don't have to say anything, but you do have to DO something and I will start first.

by PLANTING A TREE.

A TREE!!!! 😀

Just one tree is a buffer against global warming. This is because trees absorb carbon dioxide, and release oxygen thus keeping greenhouse gasses in check. How many trees can save a planet? Why don't we find out how much of a dent we on Opera can make?

I am tagging the following friends and nature lovers to PLANT ONE TREE by the end of the year:

Martin
Darko
James
Rhona
Fati
Nick
LC
Marcus
Aadil
Dillon

There are only two requirements:

1. The tree should be as drought resistant as possible.
(when it gets very, very hot, some trees hold onto the oxygen and release carbon dioxide) 😮
2. It should be indigenous to your local area. No planting exotics that don't belong!

If it will also one day provide food or shelter for animals and birds, then you get bonus points 😀

I am also asking everybody on this list to tag at least five other people to do the same. You can tag more if you like and that will be even more positive and encouraging. Imagine how many we'll plant? Almost everybody always does what the tag says, right? 😀

It would be wonderful if we all posted pictures of our tree-planting ceremony, afterwards, wouldn't it?
Please plant a tree, my friends! Get out there, dig a hole and plant a tree! Plant more than one!

Or come back and tell me why it wasn't possible.

I'll be back soon too, with my tree planting adventure pics 😀

Nature can heal nature, if we lend a hand. And most of us have them 😀

  1. Yipee! that’s one more we can be sure of. that sounds great! i love vineyards.i’m thinking i’ll do mine in the nature reserve here. they need trees in the recreation areas. and some at home, too 😀 it’s going to be fun. 🙂

  2. oh and if anybody can’t afford one (trees are expensive here) then get a group to all chip in and plant it together. i’ll get mine donated by the reserve. i’ll just have to do the work 😀

  3. Somewhere somehow I will plant a tree. (Oh oh I’ve committed myself now) :left:.:yes:This is one damn good idea!.Why didn’t I think of this first? :awww:

  4. Plant it in one of the parks, perhaps? 😀 I’m sure you could get permission. or on your patio, or balcony? or even a pot plant would be lovely 🙂

  5. HEY GFGreat idea however, I will have to plant on on my daughters yardthe Heaven house has enough :DI use to plant tress alot we use to buy the seedlings from school when my kids would bring them home we would plant them in the yard now I don’t have a yard sooooooooooo my daughters house is next 😀

  6. YAY! maybe a good idea for those in the city is to find a park that needs trees and plant them there..or a schoolyard… thanks GF for getting in on the tree-planting action!

  7. YAY!!!! lekker! :lol:well you can start another one….to start….ok you be creative and tag me back…oh, now i must be committed too. ok i will be 😀

  8. This was a pretty good idea to do. See my house sits on a very big lot, so he already have lots of trees. The downside is that the cold weather kills off the fruit trees, and protecting them is hard, but we do are best. 😀 I really like this type of tag instead of the other ones, it actually does good to our society and planet. 🙂

  9. who says I like nature :whistle:I will plant one in the back yard; but it will have to wait a few months until the snow stops and the sun comes out. Hopefully, it will make it past the first winter. If it dies, you have to dig the ugly thing out of the backyard!!!

  10. Jose you can find somewhere? sometree? sometime?LC, how could it die with you looking after it?? you love nature, yes you do! :lol:Sonam>>> yes, sure for some, it feels this way..but not everybody was raised to think about it all the time. the tag is a reminder. where are you planting yours? 😀

  11. I’m going to look into local volunteer programs. There are groups going out at all times of the year planting trees and clearing nature trails. There’s also the Arbor Day Foundation. They link to programs and resources for tree planting. They also have dates for local Arbor Days in the United States and around the world.

  12. Unlikely I’ll be able to plant a tree in my apartment but back in January I did pay for a tree to be planted by the Woodland trust here in the UK. Also, I pay for wind generated electicity 🙂 Helps the balance a little I guess :Pps. I do have plants on my balcony and a few inside

  13. Many years ago, when they started to build Mexico City, people got a little bit excited with planting trees and they planted all kinds of them on the sidewalks. When the years passed by and the trees grew up, it was a big mess. They broke the pavement, they were too close to each other or way too big to be there, there was absolutely no control. Now they are cutting many of them 🙁 arfff….

  14. great pic by the way! I LOVE trees, especially the very big ones… and I really like to climb them. Some time ago, Martin and I bought a piece of land mainly because we fell in love with the big tree that was there , haha. I’ll show you a pic later 😉

  15. I watched an interesting show a couple weeks ago about treehouses. Some of them were quite wild; all were nicer then the house I live in. I think a couple used all recycled material but most were just money pits

  16. Hey Michelle, remember earlier this year (New Year’s) when I helped my friend plant trees in her yard? We planted 7 trees over two days, so I’ve fullfilled this tag before I was even tagged!

  17. That is a really good idea! I live in a pretty wooded area anyway, and the garden has lots of trees, but I will think about it too 🙂 Hazel might be nice, as the nuts are popular with some of our smallest creatures.

  18. Yes, hazelnuts are quite popular with little animals. And little animals are popular with raptors and foxes.Everybody wins!Seriously, if you plant hazelnuts, I’ll be sure to visit. Those are about the only nuts that I really like.

  19. Thanks Michelle ! :DI’m very happy I got tagged……… I WILL do it. Not now… of course, the end of May is the best time here. :)I will also try to find 5 more people, that’s the point right?I will plant a white pine, one of my favorite tree here. (And I will plant more because I always do it anyway.)Pictures to come…..
